A RIP in my closet

Not nearly reverential enough, fashion magnate Liz Claiborne (1929-2007)–a revolutionary icon for contemporary mainstream American (made in China, Thank you) ready to wear–died recently from complications of cancer at the age of 78 in New York.

The Claiborne company, co-founded by Liz and husband, Arthur Ortenberg, boasts such acquisitions as Lucky Brand Jeans, Juicy Couture and Laundry by Shelli Segal; most recently it acquired 50 percent ownership in the Narciso Rodriguez name. This is second to their signature lines including LizSport, Elizabeth (Plus Sizes) and LizWear.

For what it’s worth, I still have three of her plaid shirts purchased in New York at Lord and Taylor in 1985 for $78.00. It seemed like a fortune at the time, but pro-rated, it may be one of the best buys I ever made. Still new, still current, Still Liz. Thank you.
