Fashion Shockwaves! (The epi centre is somewhere near a Haagen Daz near YOU)
Saks Fifth Avenue is on the verge of becoming the only major retailer to carry PLUS-Sized Chanel…..
and Dolce & Gabbana, as well as Yves Saint Laurent, Alexander McQueen, Fendi and Roberto Cavalli.
Stock will reach size 14 across the board, and in some cases—depending on the brand—will go up to a size 20.
Formerly, the store would stock only up to a size 10/12.
OMG. Throw out the Nutrisystem and let’s get some real vittles.
Karl Must be fanning himself frantically as I type. This must be some kind of nightmare for M. Lagerfield—envisioning
his silk frappe wound across a dimpled thigh.
Quick, someone** find him a vintage to uncork–just to take some of
the edge off as he bites a corner off his daily ration of melba toast.
Coming very soon to the SFA New York flagship.
Don’t wait for a sale—no stampede jokes—just, frankly, the buyers
are only ordering about one of each larger size to test market.
I doubt—all kidding aside—that anything will last until markdown.
Good news: If they do sell (and we know they will) chances are very
good that they will be branching into other Saks near you!
(with a body and face like David Gandy–and NO SHIRT—others need not
apply even in dire medical emergencies)

I think it’s high time that the ‘Fashion’ Industry–it is AFTERALL A BUSINESS–recognizes (and accepts) that all women aren’t all a size 4. We aren’t all 5’11’ and we aren’t all 17 anymore. Most 17 year olds (unless kidnapped by 67 year old Sultans or aged oil magnates) don’t have the wallets to support fashion habits as dictated by the runways of Paris and Milan.
I’m woefully tired that as women If we are assessed as being over a size 10, we can expect to be steered toward black separates, Eskandar or Shamask, and encouraged to be satisfied with designer handbags, complicated shoes, and luxury skin elixirs/cosmetics to indulge our appreciation of couture. Because in America WOMEN are considered a Plus Size at 5’8″ and 165 lbs (U.S. 14/16). It’s a ‘little’ ludicrous that dress size is more coveted than good health (physical or mental).
For the record, there are more fashion options available directly through the individual design house’s free standing boutiques, but unlike the smaller size ranges, a credit card deposit may be required to pre-order styles as seen AT A TRUNK SHOW (for example, Dolce & Gabbana requires plastic to order anything sized 48/50 Italian in advance). —and, don’t even TRY After the goods for the season have shipped–you will discover it is tantamount to impossible to ‘order OFF menu’.
Interesting strategy on Saks’ part. I heard recently that Marc Jacobs is actually going to design a Plus-sized line (as opposed to manufacturing/making available)larger sizes.
