Arrivederci Prada

It was announced that Barney’s New York is saying goodbye to former mainstay– Prada.

Azzedine Alaia will be assuming the second floor space in the Flagship Boutique and Valextra will expand into the ground floor space where Prada’s bags were sold.

Apparently Prada had desired to lease concession space within the store and this was not a ‘concession’ (pardon the pun) that Barneys was prepared to make at this time.

However, Barneys does intend to continue to vend Prada footwear. What a relief.

Barneys 2010 Fall Men’s Collection

Ahoy Boys!

Well, as far as I am concerned, no visible GQ fare present or accounted for, Sir.

Barneys Fall Winter 2010 Catalog Cover

They say that clothes make the man but they appear to be a few yards short in this case.
Perhaps, they lacked the material (Pun intended.

McQueen Barneys 2010 Catalog

There was a GENERAL (saluting and typing here) theme of Military with a dash (a very florid one at that) of ’secret agent man’ thrown in for measure.

Balmain a/w 2010 Barneys catalog

Balmain featured what I guess would be termed (even in Galliano Parlance) as Drunken French Sailor as the theme du jour.

Rick Owens doled out pretty predictable fare as he seems to design really only one joint collection whether you are shopping men or women.

Balenciaga advertised with a pretty man guarding a stack of pipes—pause with wonderment……

Dries Van Notens’ Lads–well, slapdance aside–the pants length, expanse, of ankle and shoes says it all. There’s gonna be a lot of scratching and biting in this quarrel.

Thom Browne’s model would probably look fine if they would let him out of Detention early so that he could rob the 7/11 and get on with it.

Comme des Garcons Barneys NY 2010

Well, Someone needs to tell Comme des Garçons that actually, this is NOTHING que Comme des Garçons …..

I do wonder how much of the spin actually sells the merchandise–I guess if I were in one of the five boroughs (Staten Island, Queens, Brooklyn and the Bronx aside) I’d understand.

Okay, one can extrapolate an idea. Sort of along the lines of George Harrison’s ‘My Sweet Lord / He’s So Fine’…….but I did wonder as I spied Mark Davis’ new ’square’ earrings if he wasn’t a bit “inspired” by Sharon Khazzam’s $5640 creation as he mulled through the jewelry concession dropping off his consigned wares to vend. Granted, Mark has put a rougher spin on Sharon’s finely crafted creations but it is a tad coincidental to anyone who shops Barneys (or their website online…for….well……jewelry).

Just a thought. Of course, it is a decent living and not all of what he does as an Artist. There is a world of inspiration awaiting you Mark–ride down to Canal Street.
