Mauve Mood

Gucci Fulham with braided handle in mauve for Spring 08

Interesting variation on Gucci’s popular Fulham model–patent leather in a grey/mauve colour that could almost be a neutral. I say almost because with the lighting these in-store alcoves are fitted with, it’s hard to really tell what hue is going to project in the light of day. Remind me of this when I’m buying that twelfth tube of red lipstick. What you see is often NOT what you get.

A nice touch is the versatile not too silver-not too gold hardware. It’s very ‘is it or isn’t it’ which makes the bag go a few extra miles in that arena also.

Having said that, I’d recommend that if you do opt to shell out the $1800 for this season’s Gucci–do it someplace that will give your money back to you (as opposed to the Boutiques that often take a ‘you-bought-it-three-minutes-ago—now-it’s-yours-sorry’ attitude). Just a thought in case that mauve mood is moodier in the light of day.

INDY 500??

Gucci black suede mini skirt is a match for the Indy

‘HOT LEGS–I love you, Honey……’
This should get you humming Rod Stewart. And, there’s nothing he appreciates more than a blond in a black suede mini skirt (and, you know, I respect that about him.)

Gucci black suede Indy bag

Gucci’s Indy bag (from last season) that is carried forth as a new staple for their line. My God, it’s even being sold in Tampa (now you know it’s mainstream, America, anyway.) This version features the black suede body-also done in a mosaic and more couture version for you connoisseurs–with vermilion and mauve patent accents. Let’s not forget the bamboo logo tassels and a handle that looks like it was pried off a ‘67 Mustang.

Toss that in the mix with the black MINI skirt featuring the same embellishments and well, HOT DAMN (and Hot Legs) you have an Ensemble.

Wonder if the PTA of Tampa is quite ready for this……

Cherry Picks for August

Hot enough? I’m finding it a tad toasty to resonate to Wolford’s unique tri-length tights in what appeared to be a mohair blend. (Keeping in mind it is 37C in Tampa, Florida as well as Shibuya, Tokyo), I’ve sifted through the racks at Chanel–(and yes, the sale is omnipresent Stateside—aren’t we all a tad sick of it yet?) and with the advent of recognition of global warming–is it really wise to promote eight gauge cashmere?

Our favourite trends for August would be:

a) purple as the new black (yeah, go figure) Chalk one up for Yves.
b) Goldtone hardware adornments–could the silver streak be shifting?
c) any handbag NOT Chloe and NOT the Paddington in any of its tired incarnations
d) Patent–get out your windex, it’s another season of smears.
e) iPhones (would be nicer if they were indeed Hacker proof)

Jet Li in Kiss of the Dragon
f) Jet Li (because any body that nimble has to be terrific any month of the year)

Christian Bale in Batman Begins
g) Christian Bale (I mean seriously…..)

Of note–Chloe’s denim mini skirts just got about five inches shorter. This contrasts their otherwise ’50’s style influences with trapeze hemlines Galore.

Nina Ricci’s debut of Olivier Theyskens.

Chanel’s use of animal rather than skeletal print on their ensembles. (I still hate it when Karl is right—and he always is) a rather refreshing opt out of the Jolly Roger.

Christian Louboutin’s Pigalle Patent Stilletto Shoes in Black Patent (High and Mighty) Do also check out Choo’s Tall Black Mod variety–gold buckle, heel….to, well…..boot — available on net-a-porter.

Louboutin glitter peep toe pumps and Dries Van Noten sequin top

Sequins….follow that paillette trail home if all else fails a la Hansel and Gretel. Nothing like some glitter litter.

Gucci’s updated clothing for men–black gg on black logo print–euro cut, of course. Plus commemorative Brioni Ties with enough brocade to please Louis the XVII. Check Neiman Marcus and wish ‘em a happy Hundred.

Jimmy Choo and Louis Vuitton both featuring a Hot Black Cherry Hue patent bag (Louis calls his Amaranthe.) Rich with all those British racing colours.

Meta-Metallics still topping the shelves as de riguer for the season. Chanel RE ReIssued their bronze/silver/gold lame bags.

Dolce and Gabanna’s Leopard Print Vinyl Raincoat (for that very Moulin Rouge look) $3995.00 worth of tacky fun. (Best with NOTHING underneath and as hot as this sucker gets, you’ll want to peel it off quickly.)
