Kudos to talented ‘Phoebe’ (aka ‘Tiffany’) Clum of Rare Accents Salon in scenic (ahem) Palm Harbor, Florida for her tireless endeavour to whip my locks into shape. It does indeed ‘take a Village’ to plaster my locks in place. She makes it all look so easy.

REAL (and consistent) Talent is hard to find.

I’ve scoured venues in: London (Harvey Nick’s and Harrod’s salons), New York-(Frederic Fekkai), Miami (Ling Chow), Washington, D.C. (Christophe), Los Angeles, (Jose EBER), PARIS (Christophe Robin), Tokyo (Pastel). I have No Choice, I can barely comb out all this hair on my own—forget style…and I can honestly attest to the skill Ms. Clum has exhibited.

I thank ‘Phoebe’ and you will, too……colour and extension specialty.

A whole lot of hair/ a whole lotta time.
For anyone with extensions, the key to the ‘look’ (you know, that ‘thing’ you paid several thousand bucks to achieve…..?) is maintenance.
Harder than it may appear, especially if you travel.
Most especially if you’re me. I should have a buzz cut. I can’t deal with hair. Or more specifically, IT can’t deal with Me.
Therefore, should you find yourself (and your hair) in Tokyo, Pastel Salon is still THE Place to be!

Mr. Yuta Sakai, stylist — 酒井 雄太 スタイリスト — (Still love Yuu!!!!!!!!l, but since he’s moved to Pastel’s Yokohama outpost, I’m Lovin’ the One I’m With…(doo doo do do do do doo doo.)

I’ve racked up enough hours in his chair to probably qualify as a Great Lengths’ salon Rep.
Unfortunately, I was unconscious for most of the appointment on any given day.
Generally, a two hour date, I began to look forward to this as my nap time.

Not that THEY can control the requests of their clientele (only the hair please). Alas.

I remember Yuta-san as ‘Sugoi’ (Japanese for ‘Cool’). He’s even stopped correcting me. Our standing 6 PM date EVERY OTHER DAY cemented both my wayward locks as well as my profound admiration for his skills. He was even kind enough to present me with a ruby strand of ‘kira kira’ upon my recent departure back to the US.

Bejewelled Swarovski Tattoos without the lifetime commitment. That could be an interesting holiday plan. Just think of all those Kanji characters that are routinely misspelled. I mean, does that 385lb. dude with the goatee and the needles really look like he speaks fluent Chinese? You may want to check out his little box ‘o’ sharps, too…..not that a nice butterfly on your butt isn’t worth that case of Hepatitis C.

Johnny Depp should have waited for a crystal ‘Winona’—of course, he might just prefer being a ‘Wino Forever’ (God knows, it may have it’s merits).

The Smiley face works for me. I was told the adornments last for about three weeks. That could be too much happiness, but there is always a brillo pad if worse comes to worse. I dig self surgical procedures.

DO Check out Ling’s recent kudos bestowed upon her salon in her Allure write-up.

Ling is routinely haunted by the cult of well coiffed celebrities and honeyed blond Dade/Miami residents (thanks to Ms. Chow’s skill at finding the right highlights for just about any base colour–including Asian and Hispanic). She did the highlights for Colin Farrell et al when they filmed ‘Miami Vice’ on location. BAD MOVIE–good hair (You will note that as the movie progressed, Mr. Farrell’s locks appeared to become fairer and fairer…..one would suppose that a lot of touch ups would be required to keep that ‘look’ going—ah, the pain and suffering of being a hair stylist).

I’ve personally made that Five Hour pilgrimage from Tampa to Miami personally for over ten years.

As testament to her ability–she doesn’t give the same cut to each client and has an eye for fashion that has cost me thousands (primarily because she advises me which wristwatches I should invest in….and, of course, she’s right).
